How to Fix CVE-2026-55427

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Github.com/coder/coder/v2 dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

github.com/coder/coder/v2 fixed: 2.34.2
Upgrade github.com/coder/coder/v2 to 2.34.2
github.com/coder/coder/v2 fixed: 2.33.8
Upgrade github.com/coder/coder/v2 to 2.33.8
github.com/coder/coder/v2 fixed: 2.32.7
Upgrade github.com/coder/coder/v2 to 2.32.7
github.com/coder/coder/v2 fixed: 2.29.17
Upgrade github.com/coder/coder/v2 to 2.29.17
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for github.com/coder/coder/v2

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2026-55427, inspect your project dependencies for Github.com/coder/coder/v2:

inspect dependencies for github.com/coder/coder/v2

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Github.com/coder/coder/v2 in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 2.34.2), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-78: Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an OS Command ('OS Command Injection'), where the product constructs all or part of an os command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended os command when it is sent to a downstream component. In Github.com/coder/coder/v2, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Summary `coder config-ssh` wrote server-supplied SSH settings (`HostnameSuffix`, `SSHConfigOptions`) into the user's `~/.ssh/config` without sanitizing embedded newlines or restricting directives so a malicious or compromised Coder server could inject arbitrary SSH configuration. > **Note:** Practical exploitation requires control of the server-supplied values through a malicious or compromised deployment, a man-in-the-middle position or admin access to the `HostnameSuffix` and `SSHConfigOptions` settings. ### Impact A server administrator or an attacker who controlled the server, could inject a directive such as `ProxyCommand` and achieve arbitrary code execution on any developer workstation that ran `coder config-ssh`. Injected commands ran with the local user's privileges and applied to all SSH connections, not just Coder workspaces. ### Patches The fix validates `HostnameSuffix` and `SSHConfigOptions` against a strict character set that rejects newlines and other control characters. The fix was backported to all supported release lines: | Release line | Patched version | |---|---| | 2.34 | [v2.34.2](https://github.com/coder/coder/releases/tag/v2.34.2) | | 2.33 | [v2.33.8](https://github.com/coder/coder/releases/tag/v2.33.8) | | 2.32 | [v2.32.7](https://github.com/coder/coder/releases/tag/v2.32.7) | | 2.29 (ESR) | [v2.29.17](https://github.com/coder/coder/releases/tag/v2.29.17) | ### Workarounds Inspect `coder config-ssh --dry-run` output before applying changes. ### Resources - Fix: #26154 ### Credits Coder would like to thank Anthropic's Security Team (ANT-2026-22437) for independently disclosing this issue!
