How to Fix CVE-2026-9318

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected tablib dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

tablib fixed: 3.10.0
pip install tablib>=3.10.0
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

pip show tablib

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Python environment is affected by CVE-2026-9318, inspect your installed packages using pip:

pip show tablib

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of tablib in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 3.10.0), your application is affected.

Note: The pip show tablib command checks currently installed packages in your active Python environment.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting'), where the product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. In tablib, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

tablib prior to 3.10.0 contains a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability in the HTML export functionality that allows attackers to execute arbitrary JavaScript by embedding malicious payloads in dataset titles, which are interpolated unsanitized into HTML output via the export_book method in the _html.py format handler. Attackers can rename worksheet sheets in imported files such as XLSX, ODS, XLS, or YAML with script payloads that are assigned to the Dataset title attribute and rendered unescaped inside an HTML h3 tag, leading to session hijacking, unauthorized administrative actions, and sensitive data exposure when the output is rendered in a browser.
