How to Fix CVE-2024-27320

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Refuel autolabel dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

refuel-autolabel fixed: Latest secure release
pip install refuel-autolabel>=Latest secure release
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

pip show refuel-autolabel

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Python environment is affected by CVE-2024-27320, inspect your installed packages using pip:

pip show refuel-autolabel

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Refuel autolabel in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than the patched release), your application is affected.

Note: The pip show refuel-autolabel command checks currently installed packages in your active Python environment.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-1236: Improper Neutralization of Formula Elements in a CSV File, where the product saves user-provided information into a comma-separated value (csv) file, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could be interpreted as a command when the file is opened by a spreadsheet product. In Refuel autolabel, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

An arbitrary code execution vulnerability exists in versions 0.0.8 and newer of the Refuel Autolabel library because of the way its classification tasks handle provided CSV files. If a victim user creates a classification task using a maliciously crafted CSV file containing Python code, the code will be passed to an eval function which executes it.
