How to Fix CVE-2023-30846

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Typed rest client dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

typed-rest-client fixed: 1.8.0
npm install typed-rest-client@1.8.0
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

npm ls typed-rest-client

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Node.js application is affected by CVE-2023-30846, inspect your project dependencies using npm:

npm ls typed-rest-client

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Typed rest client in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.8.0), your application is affected.

Note: The npm ls typed-rest-client command inspects dependencies declared in your package.json and lockfile; it does not perform automated runtime dynamic scanning.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-522: Insufficiently Protected Credentials, where the product transmits or stores authentication credentials, but it uses an insecure method that is susceptible to unauthorized interception and/or retrieval. In Typed rest client, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact Users of typed-rest-client library version 1.7.3 or lower are vulnerable to leak authentication data to 3rd parties. The flow of the vulnerability is as follows: 1. Send any request with `BasicCredentialHandler`, `BearerCredentialHandler` or `PersonalAccessTokenCredentialHandler` 2. The target host may return a redirection (3xx), with a link to a second host. 3. The next request will use the credentials to authenticate with the second host, by setting the `Authorization` header. The expected behavior is that the next request will *NOT* set the `Authorization` header. ### Patches The problem was fixed on April 1st 2020. ### Workarounds There is no workaround. ### References This is similar to the following issues in nature: 1. [HTTP authentication leak in redirects](https://curl.haxx.se/docs/CVE-2018-1000007.html) - I used the same solution as CURL did. 2.
