How to Fix CVE-2026-27612

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected repostat dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

repostat fixed: 1.0.1
npm install repostat@1.0.1
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

npm ls repostat

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Node.js application is affected by CVE-2026-27612, inspect your project dependencies using npm:

npm ls repostat

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of repostat in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.0.1), your application is affected.

Note: The npm ls repostat command inspects dependencies declared in your package.json and lockfile; it does not perform automated runtime dynamic scanning.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting'), where the product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. In repostat, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact The `RepoCard` component is vulnerable to Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS). The vulnerability occurs because the component uses React's `dangerouslySetInnerHTML` to render the repository name (`repo` prop) during the loading state without any sanitization. If a developer using this package passes unvalidated user input directly into the `repo` prop (for example, reading it from a URL query parameter), an attacker can execute arbitrary JavaScript in the context of the user's browser. ### Proof of Concept ```jsx import { RepoCard } from 'repostat'; function App() { const params = new URLSearchParams(window.location.search); const maliciousRepo = params.get('repo') || 'facebook/react'; return <RepoCard repo={maliciousRepo} token="YOUR_TOKEN" />; } ``` ### Remediation Update to version 1.0.1. The use of dangerouslySetInnerHTML has been removed, and the repo prop is now safely rendered using standard React JSX data binding, which automatically escapes HTML entities.
