How to Fix CVE-2026-54732

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Libreoffice convert dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

libreoffice-convert fixed: 1.8.2
npm install libreoffice-convert@1.8.2
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

npm ls libreoffice-convert

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Node.js application is affected by CVE-2026-54732, inspect your project dependencies using npm:

npm ls libreoffice-convert

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Libreoffice convert in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.8.2), your application is affected.

Note: The npm ls libreoffice-convert command inspects dependencies declared in your package.json and lockfile; it does not perform automated runtime dynamic scanning.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-22: Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal'), where the product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. In Libreoffice convert, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact options.fileName is used to build a filesystem path (path.join(tempDir.name, fileName)) and the caller-supplied document buffer is written there, but fileName is never reduced to a base name. A fileName containing "../" escapes the temporary directory, so a caller can write arbitrary content to an arbitrary path the process can write to (e.g. ~/.ssh/authorized_keys, an /etc/cron.d entry, or a web root). ### Patches Version 1.8.2 uses `path.basename` on `filename` to make sure the temp directory can not be escaped. ### Workarounds Make sure you supply the filename yourself and don't have it user supplied or use `path.basename` on `filename` before using it in `libreoffice-convert`.
