How to Fix CVE-2019-1003002

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Pipeline model definition dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

org.jenkinsci.plugins:pipeline-model-definition fixed: 1.3.4.1
<dependency>
    <groupId>org.jenkinsci.plugins</groupId>
    <artifactId>pipeline-model-definition</artifactId>
    <version>1.3.4.1</version>
</dependency>
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=org.jenkinsci.plugins

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Java application is affected by CVE-2019-1003002, inspect your build dependencies using the Maven Dependency Plugin:

mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=org.jenkinsci.plugins

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Pipeline model definition in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.3.4.1), your application is affected.

Note: The mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=org.jenkinsci.plugins command inspects the resolved dependency graph declared in your project's POM files; it does not perform automated security scanning or inspect runtime dynamic classpaths. Always verify runtime container classpaths and shaded JARs.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under General Security Weakness. In Pipeline model definition, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

Jenkins Script Security sandbox protection could be circumvented during the script compilation phase by applying AST transforming annotations such as `@Grab` to source code elements. Both the pipeline validation REST APIs and actual script/pipeline execution are affected. This allowed users with Overall/Read permission, or able to control Jenkinsfile or sandboxed Pipeline shared library contents in SCM, to bypass the sandbox protection and execute arbitrary code on the Jenkins controller. All known unsafe AST transformations in Groovy are now prohibited in sandboxed scripts.
