How to Fix CVE-2026-44179

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Xwiki pro macros dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

com.xwiki.pro:xwiki-pro-macros fixed: 1.14.5
<dependency>
    <groupId>com.xwiki.pro</groupId>
    <artifactId>xwiki-pro-macros</artifactId>
    <version>1.14.5</version>
</dependency>
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=com.xwiki.pro

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Java application is affected by CVE-2026-44179, inspect your build dependencies using the Maven Dependency Plugin:

mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=com.xwiki.pro

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Xwiki pro macros in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.14.5), your application is affected.

Note: The mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=com.xwiki.pro command inspects the resolved dependency graph declared in your project's POM files; it does not perform automated security scanning or inspect runtime dynamic classpaths. Always verify runtime container classpaths and shaded JARs.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-95: Improper Neutralization of Directives in Dynamically Evaluated Code ('Eval Injection'), where the product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes code syntax before using the input in a dynamic evaluation call (e.g. "eval"). In Xwiki pro macros, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Summary The excerpt-include macro does not properly escape the title of the included page and executes the content of the excerpt with the macro's rights. Therefore, it is vulnerable to XWiki syntax injection via the included page's title and content, allowing remote code execution for any user who can edit a page. ### Details The title of the included page isn't escaped in [ExcerptInclude.xml#L277](https://github.com/xwikisas/xwiki-pro-macros/blob/main/xwiki-pro-macros-ui/src/main/resources/Confluence/Macros/ExcerptInclude.xml#L277). Further, the content of the excerpt macro is rendered to XWiki syntax and output into the macro's content such that it is executed with the macro's rights. ### PoC 1. As a user without script or programming right, create a page named `Exploit`. 2. In the edit screen, change the title to `{{async}}{{groovy}}println("Hello from Groovy Title!"){{/groovy}}{{/async}}`. 3. Set the content to ``` {{excerpt-include 0="Exploit.WebHome"}}{{/excerpt-include}} {{excerpt}} {{async}}{{groovy}}println("Hello from Groovy content!"){{/groovy}}{{/async}} {{/excerpt}} ``` 4. Save and view the page. 5. If this displays "Hello from Groovy Title!" without the surrounding macro code or "Hello from Groovy content!", the attack succeeded. ### Impact Remote code execution impacts the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the whole XWiki installation.
