How to Fix CVE-2025-68113

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Altcha lib dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

altcha-lib fixed: 1.4.1
npm install altcha-lib@1.4.1
altcha-org/altcha fixed: 1.3.1
Upgrade altcha-org/altcha to 1.3.1
github.com/altcha-org/altcha-lib-go fixed: 1.0.0
Upgrade github.com/altcha-org/altcha-lib-go to 1.0.0
org.altcha:altcha fixed: 1.3.0
<dependency>
    <groupId>org.altcha</groupId>
    <artifactId>altcha</artifactId>
    <version>1.3.0</version>
</dependency>
altcha fixed: 1.0.0
Upgrade altcha to 1.0.0
altcha fixed: 1.0.0
pip install altcha>=1.0.0
altcha fixed: 1.0.0
Upgrade altcha to 1.0.0
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

npm ls altcha-lib

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Node.js application is affected by CVE-2025-68113, inspect your project dependencies using npm:

npm ls altcha-lib

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Altcha lib in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.4.1), your application is affected.

Note: The npm ls altcha-lib command inspects dependencies declared in your package.json and lockfile; it does not perform automated runtime dynamic scanning.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-115: Misinterpretation of Input, where the product misinterprets an input, whether from an attacker or another product, in a security-relevant fashion. In Altcha lib, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact A cryptographic semantic binding flaw in ALTCHA libraries allows challenge payload splicing, which may enable replay attacks. The HMAC signature does not unambiguously bind challenge parameters to the nonce, allowing an attacker to reinterpret a valid proof-of-work submission with a modified expiration value. This may allow previously solved challenges to be reused beyond their intended lifetime, depending on server-side replay handling and deployment assumptions. The vulnerability primarily impacts abuse-prevention mechanisms such as rate limiting and bot mitigation. It does not directly affect data confidentiality or integrity. ### Patches This issue has been addressed by enforcing explicit semantic separation between challenge parameters and the nonce during HMAC computation. Users are advised to upgrade to patched versions. ### Workarounds As a mitigation, implementations may append a delimiter to the end of the `salt` value prior to HMAC computation (for example, `<salt>?expires=<time>&`). This prevents ambiguity between parameters and the nonce and is backward-compatible with existing implementations, as the delimiter is treated as a standard URL parameter separator.
