CVE-2026-63990: Software Security Vulnerability Vulnerability
MODERATECVE-2026-63990 is a MODERATE (CVSS 5.5) security vulnerability vulnerability (CWE-401: Missing Release of Memory after Effective Lifetime) affecting Software libraries in the Maven ecosystem. The weakness occurs when the product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, making the memory unavailable for reallocation and reuse.. Remediation is available in the latest vendor maintenance releases.
CVE-2026-63990 at a Glance
Security Impact
CVSS: 5.5
The security impact metrics below are parsed directly from the CVSS v3.1 vector string (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H).
How to Fix CVE-2026-63990
To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Software dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.
Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:
mvn dependency:tree
How to Check if You Are Affected
To determine whether your Java application is affected by CVE-2026-63990, inspect your build dependencies using the Maven Dependency Plugin:
mvn dependency:tree
Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Software in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than the patched release), your application is affected.
Note: The mvn dependency:tree command inspects the resolved dependency graph declared in your project's POM files; it does not perform automated security scanning or inspect runtime dynamic classpaths. Always verify runtime container classpaths and shaded JARs.
Technical Details
Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis
This vulnerability is classified under CWE-401: Missing Release of Memory after Effective Lifetime, where the product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, making the memory unavailable for reallocation and reuse. In Software, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

"details" : "In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nbonding: refuse to enslave CAN devices\n\nsyzbot reported a kernel paging request crash in\ncan_rx_unregister() inside net/can/af_can.c. The crash occurs\nbecause a virtual CAN device (vxcan) is being enslaved to a\nbonding master.\n\nDuring the enslavement process, the bonding driver mutates\nand modifies the network device states to fit an Ethernet-like\naggregation model. However, CAN devices operate on a completely\ndifferent Layer 2 architecture, relying on the CAN mid-layer\nprivate data structure (can_ml_priv) instead of standard\nEthernet structures. Since bonding does not initialize or\nmaintain these CAN structures, subsequent operations on the\nhalf-enslaved interface (such as closing associated sockets\nvia isotp_release) lead to a null-pointer dereference when\naccessing the CAN receiver lists.\n\nBonding CAN interfaces is architecturally invalid as CAN lacks\nMAC addresses, ARP capabilities, and standard Ethernet\nlink-layer mechanisms. While generic loopback devices are\nblocked globally in net/core/dev.c, virtual CAN devices\nbypass this check because they do not carry the IFF_LOOPBACK\nflag, despite acting as local software-loopbacks.\n\nFix this by explicitly blocking network devices of type\nARPHRD_CAN from being enslaved at the very beginning of\nbond_enslave(). This prevents illegal state mutations,\neliminates the resulting KASAN crashes, and avoids potential\nmemory leaks from incomplete socket cleanups.\n\nAs the CAN support has been added a long time after bonding\nthe Fixes-tag points to the introduction of ARPHRD_CAN that\nwould have needed a specific handling in bonding_main.c.",
