CVE-2026-54414: Software Security Vulnerability Vulnerability
CRITICALCVE-2026-54414 is a CRITICAL (CVSS 9.8) security vulnerability vulnerability (CWE-22: Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal')) affecting Software libraries in the Maven ecosystem. The weakness occurs when the product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory.. Remediation is available in the latest vendor maintenance releases.

Security Impact
CVSS: 9.8
The security impact metrics below are parsed directly from the CVSS v3.1 vector string (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H).
How to Fix CVE-2026-54414
To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Software dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.
Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:
mvn dependency:tree
How to Check if You Are Affected
To determine whether your Java application is affected by CVE-2026-54414, inspect your build dependencies using the Maven Dependency Plugin:
mvn dependency:tree
Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Software in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than the patched release), your application is affected.
Note: The mvn dependency:tree command inspects the resolved dependency graph declared in your project's POM files; it does not perform automated security scanning or inspect runtime dynamic classpaths. Always verify runtime container classpaths and shaded JARs.
Technical Details
Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis
This vulnerability is classified under CWE-22: Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal'), where the product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. In Software, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

"details" : "FileRise before 3.16.0 is vulnerable to path traversal in the shared-folder upload endpoint (/api/folder/uploadToSharedFolder.php), leading to arbitrary file write and administrator account takeover. The upload filename is validated by FolderController with basename() and REGEX_FILE_NAME, which permit URL-encoded sequences (the regex blocks / and \\ but not %). The raw filename is then passed to UploadModel::handleUpload, where it is reconstructed as trim(urldecode(basename($fileName))), re-introducing path separators after validation (e.g. ..%2fusers%2fusers.txt becomes ../users/users.txt). UploadNamePolicy::isAllowedForWrite() applies basename() internally and therefore only evaluates the final component (users.txt), allowing the traversal sequence to pass the extension policy. The destination path is then used directly in move_uploaded_file() with no realpath containment check, allowing a write outside the intended upload directory. An attacker who possesses a valid, non-expired, upload-enabled shared-folder link/token (which are designed to be shared publicly) can overwrite users/users.txt to create an administrator account, resulting in unauthenticated admin takeover and, depending on configuration, remote code execution. Exploitation requires possession of a valid, non-expired, upload-enabled shared-folder link/token. This issue is fixed in 3.16.0, which URL-decodes before validation and rejects any path separators in the upload filename.",
