CVE-2026-53024: Software Security Vulnerability Vulnerability

CVSS 7.8
CWE-416

Advisory Summary

CVE-2026-53024 is a HIGH (CVSS 7.8) security vulnerability vulnerability (CWE-416: Use After Free) affecting Software libraries in the Maven ecosystem. The weakness occurs when the product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. at some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.. Remediation is available in the latest vendor maintenance releases.

Security Impact

CVSS: 7.8

The security impact metrics below are parsed directly from the CVSS v3.1 vector string (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H).

Attack Vector Local (AV:L)
Attack Complexity Low (AC:L)
Privileges Required Low (PR:L)
User Interaction None (UI:N)
Scope Unchanged (S:U)
Confidentiality High (C:H)
Integrity High (I:H)
Availability High (A:H)

How to Fix CVE-2026-53024

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Software dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

mvn dependency:tree

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Java application is affected by CVE-2026-53024, inspect your build dependencies using the Maven Dependency Plugin:

mvn dependency:tree

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Software in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than the patched release), your application is affected.

Note: The mvn dependency:tree command inspects the resolved dependency graph declared in your project's POM files; it does not perform automated security scanning or inspect runtime dynamic classpaths. Always verify runtime container classpaths and shaded JARs.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-416: Use After Free, where the product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. at some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer. In Software, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: greybus: raw: fix use-after-free if write is called after disconnect If a user writes to the chardev after disconnect has been called, the kernel panics with the following trace (with CONFIG_INIT_ON_FREE_DEFAULT_ON=y): BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000218 ... Call Trace: <TASK> gb_operation_create_common+0x61/0x180 gb_operation_create_flags+0x28/0xa0 gb_operation_sync_timeout+0x6f/0x100 raw_write+0x7b/0xc7 [gb_raw] vfs_write+0xcf/0x420 ? task_mm_cid_work+0x136/0x220 ksys_write+0x63/0xe0 do_syscall_64+0xa4/0x290 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x77/0x7f Disconnect calls gb_connection_destroy, which ends up freeing the connection object. When gb_operation_sync is called in the write file operations, its gets a freed connection as parameter and the kernel panics. The gb_connection_destroy cannot be moved out of the disconnect function, as the Greybus subsystem expect all connections belonging to a bundle to be destroyed when disconnect returns. To prevent this bug, use a rw lock to synchronize access between write and disconnect. This guarantees that the write function doesn't try to use a disconnected connection.
