Advisory Summary

CVE-2026-4399 is a HIGH (CVSS 7.5) security vulnerability vulnerability (CWE-77: Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in a Command ('Command Injection')) affecting Software libraries in the Maven ecosystem. The weakness occurs when the product constructs all or part of a command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended command when it is sent to a downstream component.. Remediation is available in the latest vendor maintenance releases.

How to Fix CVE-2026-4399

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Software dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

mvn dependency:tree

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Java application is affected by CVE-2026-4399, inspect your build dependencies using the Maven Dependency Plugin:

mvn dependency:tree

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Software in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than the patched release), your application is affected.

Note: The mvn dependency:tree command inspects the resolved dependency graph declared in your project's POM files; it does not perform automated security scanning or inspect runtime dynamic classpaths. Always verify runtime container classpaths and shaded JARs.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-77: Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in a Command ('Command Injection'), where the product constructs all or part of a command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended command when it is sent to a downstream component. In Software, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

Prompt injection vulnerability in 1millionbot Millie chatbot that occurs when a user manages to evade chat restrictions using Boolean prompt injection techniques (formulating a question in such a way that, upon receiving an affirmative response ('true'), the model executes the injected instruction), causing it to return prohibited information and information outside its intended context. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow a malicious remote attacker to abuse the service for purposes other than those originally intended, or even execute out-of-context tasks using 1millionbot's resources and/or OpenAI's API key. This allows the attacker to evade the containment mechanisms implemented during LLM model training and obtain responses or chat behaviors that were originally restricted.
