How to Fix CVE-2026-33471

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Nimiq block dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

nimiq-block fixed: Latest secure release
Upgrade nimiq-block to Latest secure release
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for nimiq-block

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2026-33471, inspect your project dependencies for Nimiq block:

inspect dependencies for nimiq-block

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Nimiq block in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than the patched release), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-190: Integer Overflow or Wraparound, where the product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. this occurs when an integer value is incremented to a value that is too large to store in the associated representation. when this occurs, the value may become a very small or negative number. In Nimiq block, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact `SkipBlockProof::verify` computes its quorum check using `BitSet.len()`, then iterates `BitSet` indices and casts each `usize` index to `u16` (`slot as u16`) for slot lookup. If an attacker can get a `SkipBlockProof` verified where `MultiSignature.signers` contains out-of-range indices spaced by 65536, these indices inflate `len()` but collide onto the same in-range `u16` slot during aggregation. This makes it possible for a malicious validator with far fewer than `2f+1` real signer slots to pass skip block proof verification by multiplying a single BLS signature by the same factor. ### Patches [The patch for this vulnerability](https://github.com/nimiq/core-rs-albatross/pull/3657) is included as part of [v1.3.0](https://github.com/nimiq/core-rs-albatross/releases/tag/v1.3.0). ### Workarounds No known workarounds.
