How to Fix CVE-2026-30974

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected copyparty dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

copyparty fixed: 1.20.11
pip install copyparty>=1.20.11
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

pip show copyparty

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Python environment is affected by CVE-2026-30974, inspect your installed packages using pip:

pip show copyparty

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of copyparty in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.20.11), your application is affected.

Note: The pip show copyparty command checks currently installed packages in your active Python environment.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting'), where the product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. In copyparty, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Summary The `nohtml` config option, intended to prevent execution of JavaScript in user-uploaded HTML files, did not apply to SVG images. ### Details A user with write-permission could upload an SVG containing embedded JavaScript, which would execute in the context of whichever user opens it. This in itself is not a vulnerability; it is intended behavior according to [the SVG spec](https://www.w3.org/TR/SVG11/script.html). The vulnerability is that the `nohtml` volflag, when enabled, did not prevent this. `nohtml`, intended for use on volumes which contains untrusted files, would correctly prevent execution of javascript in HTML files, but did not consider SVG images. This has been fixed in v1.20.11. ### Impact The malicious JavaScript could move or delete existing files on the server, or upload new files, using the account of the person who opens the SVG.
