How to Fix CVE-2026-30967

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Parse server dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

parse-server fixed: 9.5.2-alpha.9
npm install parse-server@9.5.2-alpha.9
parse-server fixed: 8.6.22
npm install parse-server@8.6.22
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

npm ls parse-server

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Node.js application is affected by CVE-2026-30967, inspect your project dependencies using npm:

npm ls parse-server

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Parse server in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 9.5.2-alpha.9), your application is affected.

Note: The npm ls parse-server command inspects dependencies declared in your package.json and lockfile; it does not perform automated runtime dynamic scanning.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-287: Improper Authentication, where when an actor claims to have a given identity, the product does not prove or insufficiently proves that the claim is correct. In Parse server, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact The OAuth2 authentication adapter, when configured without the `useridField` option, only verifies that a token is active via the provider's token introspection endpoint, but does not verify that the token belongs to the user identified by `authData.id`. An attacker with any valid OAuth2 token from the same provider can authenticate as any other user. This affects any Parse Server deployment that uses the generic OAuth2 authentication adapter (configured with `oauth2: true`) without setting the `useridField` option. ### Patches The vulnerability is fixed by defaulting `useridField` to `sub`, which is the standard subject identifier field defined by [RFC 7662](https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc7662). The adapter now always validates the token's identity against the claimed user ID, even when `useridField` is not explicitly configured. ### Workarounds Set the `useridField` option to the appropriate field name for your OAuth2 provider (e.g. `sub`) in the Parse Server authentication configuration. ### References - GitHub security advisory: https://github.com/parse-community/parse-server/security/advisories/GHSA-fr88-w35c-r596 - Fix Parse Server 9: https://github.com/parse-community/parse-server/releases/tag/9.5.2-alpha.9 - Fix Parse Server 8: https://github.com/parse-community/parse-server/releases/tag/8.6.22
