How to Fix CVE-2026-27572

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Wasmtime dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

wasmtime fixed: 24.0.6
Upgrade wasmtime to 24.0.6
wasmtime fixed: 36.0.6
Upgrade wasmtime to 36.0.6
wasmtime fixed: 40.0.4
Upgrade wasmtime to 40.0.4
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for wasmtime

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2026-27572, inspect your project dependencies for Wasmtime:

inspect dependencies for wasmtime

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Wasmtime in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 24.0.6), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-770: Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling, where the product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any intended restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated. In Wasmtime, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact Wasmtime's implementation of the `wasi:http/types.fields` resource is susceptible to panics when too many fields are added to the set of headers. Wasmtime's implementation in the `wasmtime-wasi-http` crate is backed by a data structure which panics when it reaches excessive capacity and this condition was not handled gracefully in Wasmtime. Panicking in a WASI implementation is a Denial of Service vector for embedders and is treated as a security vulnerability in Wasmtime. ### Patches Wasmtime 24.0.6, 36.0.6, 40.0.4, 41.0.4, and 42.0.0 patch this vulnerability and return a trap to the guest instead of panicking. ### Workarounds There are no known workarounds at this time, embedders are encouraged to update to a patched version of Wasmtime. ### Resources * [Limitations of `http::HeaderMap`](https://docs.rs/http/1.4.0/http/header/#limitations)
