Advisory Summary

CVE-2026-19553 is a HIGH security vulnerability vulnerability (CWE-297: Improper Validation of Certificate with Host Mismatch) affecting Software libraries in the Maven ecosystem. The weakness occurs when the product communicates with a host that provides a certificate, but the product does not properly ensure that the certificate is actually associated with that host.. Remediation is available in the latest vendor maintenance releases.

How to Fix CVE-2026-19553

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Software dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

mvn dependency:tree

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Java application is affected by CVE-2026-19553, inspect your build dependencies using the Maven Dependency Plugin:

mvn dependency:tree

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Software in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than the patched release), your application is affected.

Note: The mvn dependency:tree command inspects the resolved dependency graph declared in your project's POM files; it does not perform automated security scanning or inspect runtime dynamic classpaths. Always verify runtime container classpaths and shaded JARs.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-297: Improper Validation of Certificate with Host Mismatch, where the product communicates with a host that provides a certificate, but the product does not properly ensure that the certificate is actually associated with that host. In Software, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

ssl.SSLContext.wrap_bio() didn't require the server_hostname argument to not be None if ssl.SSLContext.check_hostname was set. Due to a missing parameter check in SSLObject, if the server_hostname argument isn't supplied then hostname verification would be silently skipped. This defect could lead to programs where certificate hostname verification *appeared* to be succeeding with SSLContext.check_hostname = True and no ValueError being raised due to misconfiguration. If the program passes a server_hostname value that isn't an empty string or None to any of these APIs then certificate hostname verification proceeds as expected and the program is not affected by this vulnerability. Mitigating this vulnerability doesn't require updating Python or applying the patch. To mitigate, pass a valid non-None and non-empty server_hostname value to SSLContext.wrap_bio(), asyncio.create_connection(), or asyncio.loop.start_tls() and certificate hostname verification will proceed as expected. Upgrading to the latest version of Python or applying the patch only changes the behavior from silently skipping hostname verification to raising a ValueError, similar to SSLContext.wrap_socket(), when server_hostname isn't supplied.
