How to Fix CVE-2025-65014

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Librenms/librenms dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

librenms/librenms fixed: 25.11.0
Upgrade librenms/librenms to 25.11.0
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for librenms/librenms

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2025-65014, inspect your project dependencies for Librenms/librenms:

inspect dependencies for librenms/librenms

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Librenms/librenms in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 25.11.0), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-521: Weak Password Requirements, where the product does not require that users should have strong passwords. In Librenms/librenms, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

## Summary A **Weak Password Policy** vulnerability was identified in the user management functionality of the _LibreNMS_ application. This vulnerability allows administrators to create accounts with extremely weak and predictable passwords, such as `12345678`. This exposes the platform to brute-force and credential stuffing attacks. --- ## Details **Vulnerable Component:** User creation / password definition The application fails to enforce a strong password policy when creating new users. As a result, administrators can define trivial and well-known weak passwords, compromising the authentication security of the system. --- ## PoC 1. Log in to the application using an **Administrator** account. 2. Navigate to the user management section: 3. Create a new user account using the password `12345678`. 4. The application accepts the weak password without restrictions and creates the account successfully. --- ## Impact Weak password policy vulnerabilities can have severe consequences, including: - Increased risk of brute-force and credential stuffing attacks - Unauthorized access to user or administrative accounts - Privilege escalation through compromised credentials - Degradation of the overall security posture of the platform --- ## Mitigation - Enforce a strong password policy (e.g., minimum of 12 characters with uppercase, lowercase, digits, and special characters). - Block the use of commonly known weak passwords (e.g., `12345678`, `password`, `admin`, `qwerty`).
