How to Fix CVE-2025-1979

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Ray dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

ray fixed: 2.43.0
pip install ray>=2.43.0
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

pip show ray

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Python environment is affected by CVE-2025-1979, inspect your installed packages using pip:

pip show ray

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Ray in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 2.43.0), your application is affected.

Note: The pip show ray command checks currently installed packages in your active Python environment.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-532: Insertion of Sensitive Information into Log File, where the product writes sensitive information to a log file. In Ray, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

Versions of the package ray before 2.43.0 are vulnerable to Insertion of Sensitive Information into Log File where the redis password is being logged in the standard logging. If the redis password is passed as an argument, it will be logged and could potentially leak the password. This is only exploitable if: 1) Logging is enabled; 2) Redis is using password authentication; 3) Those logs are accessible to an attacker, who can reach that redis instance. **Note:** It is recommended that anyone who is running in this configuration should update to the latest version of Ray, then rotate their redis password.
