How to Fix CVE-2023-34460

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Tauri dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

tauri fixed: 1.4.1
Upgrade tauri to 1.4.1
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for tauri

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2023-34460, inspect your project dependencies for Tauri:

inspect dependencies for tauri

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Tauri in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.4.1), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-285: Improper Authorization, where the product does not perform or incorrectly performs an authorization check when an actor attempts to access a resource or perform an action. In Tauri, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact The 1.4.0 release includes a regression on the filesystem scope check for dotfiles on Linux and macOS. Previously dotfiles (eg. `$HOME/.ssh/`) were not implicitly allowed by the glob wildcard scopes (eg. `$HOME/*`), but a regression was introduced when a configuration option for this behavior was implemented and dotfiles were implicitly allowed. Only Tauri applications using wildcard scopes in the `fs` endpoint are affected. Only macOS and Linux systems are affected. ### Patches The regression has been patched on `v1.4.1`. ### Workarounds There are no known workarounds at this time, users should update to `v1.4.1` immediately. ### References See the [original advisory](https://github.com/tauri-apps/tauri/security/advisories/GHSA-6mv3-wm7j-h4w5) for more information. ### For more Information If you have any questions or comments about this advisory: Open an issue in tauri Email us at [security@tauri.app](mailto:security@tauri.app)
