How to Fix CVE-2022-4231

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Tribalsystems/zenario dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

tribalsystems/zenario fixed: Latest secure release
Upgrade tribalsystems/zenario to Latest secure release
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for tribalsystems/zenario

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2022-4231, inspect your project dependencies for Tribalsystems/zenario:

inspect dependencies for tribalsystems/zenario

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Tribalsystems/zenario in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than the patched release), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-384: Session Fixation, where authenticating a user, or otherwise establishing a new user session, without invalidating any existing session identifier gives an attacker the opportunity to steal authenticated sessions. In Tribalsystems/zenario, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

Tribal Systems Zenario CMS 9.3.57595 is vulnerable to session fixation. In Zenario CMS, the user session identifier (authentication token) is issued to the browser prior to authentication but is not changed after user logout and login again into the application when "Remember me" option active. Failing to issue a new session ID following a successful login introduces the possibility for an attacker to set up a trap session on the device the victim is likely to login with. The attack may be initiated remotely and an exploit has been disclosed.
