How to Fix CVE-2021-41273

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Pterodactyl/panel dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

pterodactyl/panel fixed: 1.6.6
Upgrade pterodactyl/panel to 1.6.6
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for pterodactyl/panel

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2021-41273, inspect your project dependencies for Pterodactyl/panel:

inspect dependencies for pterodactyl/panel

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Pterodactyl/panel in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.6.6), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-352: Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF), where the web application does not, or cannot, sufficiently verify whether a request was intentionally provided by the user who sent the request, which could have originated from an unauthorized actor. In Pterodactyl/panel, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact Due to improperly configured CSRF protections on two routes, a malicious user could execute a CSRF-based attack against the following endpoints: * Sending a test email. * Generating a node auto-deployment token. At no point would any data be exposed to the malicious user, this would simply trigger email spam to an administrative user, or generate a single auto-deployment token unexpectedly. This token is not revealed to the malicious user, it is simply created unexpectedly in the system. ### Patches This has been addressed in https://github.com/pterodactyl/panel/commit/bf9cbe2c6d5266c6914223e067c56175de7fc3a5 which will be released as `1.6.6`. ### Workarounds Users may optionally manually apply the fixes released in v1.6.6 to patch their own systems.
