How to Fix CVE-2019-10876

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Neutron dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

neutron fixed: 13.0.3
pip install neutron>=13.0.3
neutron fixed: 11.0.7
pip install neutron>=11.0.7
neutron fixed: 12.0.6
pip install neutron>=12.0.6
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

pip show neutron

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Python environment is affected by CVE-2019-10876, inspect your installed packages using pip:

pip show neutron

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Neutron in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 13.0.3), your application is affected.

Note: The pip show neutron command checks currently installed packages in your active Python environment.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under General Security Weakness. In Neutron, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

An issue was discovered in OpenStack Neutron 11.x before 11.0.7, 12.x before 12.0.6, and 13.x before 13.0.3. By creating two security groups with separate/overlapping port ranges, an authenticated user may prevent Neutron from being able to configure networks on any compute nodes where those security groups are present, because of an Open vSwitch (OVS) firewall KeyError. All Neutron deployments utilizing neutron-openvswitch-agent are affected.
