How to Fix CVE-2007-0660

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected DotNetNuke.Core dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

DotNetNuke.Core fixed: 03.02.01
Upgrade DotNetNuke.Core to 03.02.01
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for DotNetNuke.Core

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2007-0660, inspect your project dependencies for DotNetNuke.Core:

inspect dependencies for DotNetNuke.Core

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of DotNetNuke.Core in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 03.02.01), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting'), where the product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. In DotNetNuke.Core, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the IFrame module before 03.02.01 for DotNetNuke (DNN), caused by improper validation of user-supplied input by an unspecified script. Pass through values were not getting filtered, leaving them vulnerable to XSS. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability using various parameters in a specially-crafted URL to execute script in a victim's Web browser within the security context of the hosting Web site, once the URL is clicked. An attacker could use this vulnerability to steal the victim's cookie-based authentication credentials.
