How to Fix CVE-2026-34244

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Weblate dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

weblate fixed: 5.17
pip install weblate>=5.17
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

pip show weblate

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Python environment is affected by CVE-2026-34244, inspect your installed packages using pip:

pip show weblate

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Weblate in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 5.17), your application is affected.

Note: The pip show weblate command checks currently installed packages in your active Python environment.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-918: Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF), where the web server receives a url or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this url, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination. In Weblate, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact A user with the `project.edit` permission (granted by the per-project "Administration" role) can configure machine translation service URLs pointing to arbitrary internal network addresses. During configuration validation, Weblate makes an HTTP request to the attacker-controlled URL and reflects up to 200 characters of the response body back to the user in an error message. This constitutes a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) with partial response read. ### Patches * https://github.com/WeblateOrg/weblate/pull/18684 * The solution then has been cleaned up in followup patches ### Workarounds Limiting available machinery services via WEBLATE_MACHINERY setting can avoid this. ### References Thanks to @DavidCarliez for disclosing this via GitHub private vulnerability reporting.
