How to Fix CVE-2026-56742

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Cilium dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

github.com/cilium/cilium fixed: 1.17.17
Upgrade github.com/cilium/cilium to 1.17.17
github.com/cilium/ciliumCilium fixed: 1.18.11
Upgrade github.com/cilium/ciliumCilium to 1.18.11
github.com/cilium/cilium fixed: 1.19.5
Upgrade github.com/cilium/cilium to 1.19.5
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for github.com/cilium/cilium

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2026-56742, inspect your project dependencies for Cilium:

inspect dependencies for github.com/cilium/cilium

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Cilium in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.17.17), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-862: Missing Authorization, where the product does not perform an authorization check when an actor attempts to access a resource or perform an action. In Cilium, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact In Cilium clusters using [Gateway API](https://docs.cilium.io/en/stable/network/servicemesh/gateway-api/gateway-api/), users with permissions to create or update namespaced HTTPRoutes can mirror HTTP traffic to any Service in any namespace, bypassing the ReferenceGrant authorization mechanism. Gateway API functionality is disabled by default. ### Patches This issue affects: * Cilium v1.19 from v1.19.0 to v1.19.4 inclusive * Cilium v1.18 from v1.18.0 to v1.18.10 inclusive * All versions of Cilium before v1.17.17 This issue is patched in: * Cilium v1.19.5 * Cilium v1.18.11 * Cilium v1.17.17 ### Workarounds There is no workaround to this issue. Users of this feature who are unable to upgrade can mitigate the risk by ensuring that RBAC permissions to create `HTTPRoute` objects are only granted to cluster admins. ### Acknowledgements The Cilium community has worked together with members of Isovalent to prepare these mitigations. Special thanks to @galanko for reporting the issue and @mhofstetter for their work on triaging and remediating this issue. ### For more information If you have any questions or comments about this advisory, please reach out on [Slack](https://docs.cilium.io/en/latest/community/community/). If you think you have found a vulnerability affecting Cilium, we strongly encourage you to report it to our security mailing list at [security@cilium.io](mailto:security@cilium.io).
