How to Fix CVE-2026-5766

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Django dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

Django fixed: 6.0.5
pip install Django>=6.0.5
Django fixed: 5.2.14
pip install Django>=5.2.14
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

pip show Django

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Python environment is affected by CVE-2026-5766, inspect your installed packages using pip:

pip show Django

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Django in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 6.0.5), your application is affected.

Note: The pip show Django command checks currently installed packages in your active Python environment.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-130: Improper Handling of Length Parameter Inconsistency, where the product parses a formatted message or structure, but it does not handle or incorrectly handles a length field that is inconsistent with the actual length of the associated data. In Django, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

An issue was discovered in 6.0 before 6.0.5 and 5.2 before 5.2.14. ASGI requests with a missing or understated `Content-Length` header can bypass the `FILE_UPLOAD_MAX_MEMORY_SIZE` limit, potentially loading large files into memory and causing service degradation. As a reminder, Django expects a limit to be configured at the web server level rather than solely relying on `FILE_UPLOAD_MAX_MEMORY_SIZE`. Earlier, unsupported Django series (such as 5.0.x, 4.1.x, and 3.2.x) were not evaluated and may also be affected. Django thanks Kyle Agronick for reporting this issue.
