How to Fix CVE-2025-6237

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Invokeai dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

invokeai fixed: 6.7.0
pip install invokeai>=6.7.0
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

pip show invokeai

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Python environment is affected by CVE-2025-6237, inspect your installed packages using pip:

pip show invokeai

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Invokeai in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 6.7.0), your application is affected.

Note: The pip show invokeai command checks currently installed packages in your active Python environment.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-73: External Control of File Name or Path, where the product allows user input to control or influence paths or file names that are used in filesystem operations. In Invokeai, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Path Traversal Vulnerability in InvokeAI A path traversal vulnerability in **InvokeAI** (versions < 6.7.0) allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to read files outside the intended media directory via the **bulk downloads** API. The endpoint accepts a user-controlled file/item name and concatenates it into a filesystem path without proper canonicalization or allow-listing. By supplying sequences such as `../` (or absolute paths), an attacker can cause the server to traverse directories and return arbitrary files. In certain storage or back-end configurations, abusing attacker-controlled paths can also lead to unintended overwriting or deletion of files referenced by the crafted path. The issue is fixed in **6.7.0**, which normalizes and validates input paths and rejects traversal attempts. **Affected versions:** `< 6.7.0` **Patched version:** `6.7.0`
