How to Fix CVE-2026-41883

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected OmniFaces dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=org.omnifaces

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Java application is affected by CVE-2026-41883, inspect your build dependencies using the Maven Dependency Plugin:

mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=org.omnifaces

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of OmniFaces in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.14.2), your application is affected.

Note: The mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=org.omnifaces command inspects the resolved dependency graph declared in your project's POM files; it does not perform automated security scanning or inspect runtime dynamic classpaths. Always verify runtime container classpaths and shaded JARs.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-917: Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an Expression Language Statement ('Expression Language Injection'), where the product constructs all or part of an expression language (el) statement in a framework such as a java server page (jsp) using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended el statement before it is executed. In OmniFaces, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact Server-side EL injection leading to Remote Code Execution (RCE). Affects applications that use `CDNResourceHandler` with a wildcard CDN mapping (e.g. `libraryName:*=https://cdn.example.com/*`). An attacker can craft a resource request URL containing an EL expression in the resource name, which is evaluated server-side. The severity depends on the EL implementation and the objects available in the EL context. In the worst case this leads to Remote Code Execution (RCE). At minimum it allows information disclosure and denial of service. Applications using `CDNResourceHandler` without wildcard mappings (i.e. only explicit resource-to-URL mappings) are **not** affected. ### Patches Fixed in versions 5.2.3, 4.7.5, 3.14.16, 2.7.32, and 1.14.2. Users should upgrade to the appropriate version for their branch. ### Workarounds Replace wildcard CDN mappings with explicit resource-to-URL mappings. For example, replace: ``` libraryName:*=https://cdn.example.com/* ``` with individual entries: ``` libraryName:resource1.js=https://cdn.example.com/resource1.js, libraryName:resource2.js=https://cdn.example.com/resource2.js ```
