How to Fix CVE-2026-46543

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected nimiq-blockchain dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

nimiq-blockchain fixed: 1.5.0
Upgrade nimiq-blockchain to 1.5.0
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for nimiq-blockchain

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2026-46543, inspect your project dependencies for nimiq-blockchain:

inspect dependencies for nimiq-blockchain

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of nimiq-blockchain in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.5.0), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-617: Reachable Assertion, where the product contains an assert() or similar statement that can be triggered by an attacker, which leads to an application exit or other behavior that is more severe than necessary. In nimiq-blockchain, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact A remote peer can crash any full node by sending a RequestBatchSet message containing the genesis block's hash. The handler calls `get_epoch_chunks` which iterates backwards through macro blocks using `Policy::macro_block_before`. When it reaches the genesis block number, `macro_block_before` panics with "No macro blocks before genesis block". ### Patches [The patch for this vulnerability](https://github.com/nimiq/core-rs-albatross/pull/3745) is formally released as part of [v1.5.0](https://github.com/nimiq/core-rs-albatross/releases/tag/v1.5.0). ### Workarounds No Workaround, although requesting the genesis batch set is not used during normal operation. ### Resources See [PR](https://github.com/nimiq/core-rs-albatross/pull/3745).
