CVE-2026-84292: Fast uri Fast-uri Vulnerable To Authority Injection Vulnerability
HIGHCVE-2026-84292 is a HIGH (CVSS 7.5) fast-uri vulnerable to authority injection vulnerability (CWE-116: Improper Encoding or Escaping of Output) affecting Fast uri libraries in the npm ecosystem. The issue involves fast-uri vulnerable to authority injection via an unvalidated port in serialize. Remediation is available by upgrading affected packages to version 2.4.6, 3.1.7, 4.1.4.

How to Fix CVE-2026-84292
To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Fast uri dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.
npm install fast-uri@2.4.6
npm install fast-uri@3.1.7
npm install fast-uri@4.1.4
Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:
npm ls fast-uri
How to Check if You Are Affected
To determine whether your Node.js application is affected by CVE-2026-84292, inspect your project dependencies using npm:
npm ls fast-uri
Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Fast uri in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 2.4.6), your application is affected.
Note: The npm ls fast-uri command inspects dependencies declared in your package.json and lockfile; it does not perform automated runtime dynamic scanning.
Technical Details
Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis
This vulnerability is classified under CWE-116: Improper Encoding or Escaping of Output, where the product prepares a structured message for communication with another component, but encoding or escaping of the data is either missing or done incorrectly. as a result, the intended structure of the message is not preserved. In Fast uri, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

"summary" : "fast-uri vulnerable to authority injection via an unvalidated port in serialize",
"details" : "### Impact\n\n`fast-uri` serializes the `port` component of a URI without validating it. When recomposing the authority, `fast-uri` escapes the userinfo and host components but concatenates the port verbatim, so a `port` value that is not a sequence of digits can inject authority delimiters. For example, serializing a component whose `port` is `@127.0.0.1:8124` produces `http://trusted.example:@127.0.0.1:8124/app`, demoting the intended host to userinfo and pointing the authority at an attacker-controlled host. Both `fast-uri` and Node's `URL` read the result back as the attacker's host with no error, so re-validating the built URI does not catch it.\n\nThis affects applications that build URIs from parts and assign untrusted data to the `port` component (for example a fixed host from configuration and a port taken from user input or a service record). The same path is reachable through `serialize()`, `normalize()`, and `equal()` in their object forms. A `port` obtained from `parse()` is always digits and is not affected.\n\n### Patches\n\nThis vulnerability has been patched in fast-uri `4.1.4`, `3.1.7`, and `2.4.6`. `recomposeAuthority` now rejects any port that is not `*DIGIT` per RFC 3986. All users should upgrade.\n\n### Workarounds\n\nIf upgrading is not immediately possible, validate the `port` value against the RFC 3986 grammar (digits only) before passing a component to `serialize()`, `normalize()`, or `equal()`, and reject anything else, for example `if (!/^\\d*$/.test(String(port))) throw new Error('invalid port')`.",
