How to Fix CVE-2026-30849

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Mantisbt/mantisbt dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

mantisbt/mantisbt fixed: 2.28.1
Upgrade mantisbt/mantisbt to 2.28.1
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for mantisbt/mantisbt

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2026-30849, inspect your project dependencies for Mantisbt/mantisbt:

inspect dependencies for mantisbt/mantisbt

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Mantisbt/mantisbt in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 2.28.1), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-305: Authentication Bypass by Primary Weakness, where the authentication algorithm is sound, but the implemented mechanism can be bypassed as the result of a separate weakness that is primary to the authentication error. In Mantisbt/mantisbt, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

Mantis Bug Tracker instances running on MySQL and compatible databases are affected by an authentication bypass vulnerability in the SOAP API, as a result of improper type checking on the password parameter. Other database backends are not affected, as they do not perform implicit type conversion from string to integer. ### Impact Using a crafted SOAP envelope, an attacker knowing the victim's username is able to login to the SOAP API with their account without knowledge of the actual password, and execute any API function they have access to. ### Patches * b349e5c890eeda9bd82e7c7e14479853f8a30d9f ### Workarounds - [Disabling the SOAP API](https://mantisbt.org/docs/master/en-US/Admin_Guide/html-desktop/#admin.config.api.disable) significantly reduces the risk, but still allows the attacker to retrieve user account information including email address and real name. ### Resources - https://mantisbt.org/bugs/view.php?id=36902 ### Credits MantisBT thanks Alexander Philiotis of SynerComm for discovering and responsibly reporting the issue.
