Upgrade github.com/cilium/cilium to 1.12.9
github.com/cilium/cilium fixed: 1.13.2
Upgrade github.com/cilium/cilium to 1.13.2
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for github.com/cilium/cilium

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2023-29002, inspect your project dependencies for Github.com/cilium/cilium:

inspect dependencies for github.com/cilium/cilium

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Github.com/cilium/cilium in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.11.16), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-532: Insertion of Sensitive Information into Log File, where the product writes sensitive information to a log file. In Github.com/cilium/cilium, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact When run in debug mode, Cilium may log sensitive information. In particular, Cilium running in debug mode will log the values of headers if they match HTTP network policy rules. This issue affects Cilium versions: - 1.7.* to 1.10.* inclusive - 1.11.* before 1.11.16 - 1.12.* before 1.12.9 - 1.13.* before 1.13.2 In addition, Cilium 1.12.* before 1.12.9 and 1.13.* before 1.13.2., when running in debug mode, might log secrets used by the Cilium agent. This includes TLS private keys for Ingress and GatewayAPI resources, depending on the configuration of the affected cluster. Output of the confidential data would occur at Cilium agent restart, when the secrets are modified, and on creation of Ingress or GatewayAPI resources. ### Patches This vulnerability is fixed in Cilium releases 1.11.16, 1.12.9, and 1.13.2. ### Workarounds Disable debug mode. ### Acknowledgements The Cilium community has worked together with members of Isovalent to prepare these mitigations. Special thanks to @meyskens for investigating and fixing the issue. ### For more information If you have any questions or comments about this advisory, please reach out on [Slack](https://docs.cilium.io/en/latest/community/community/#slack).
