How to Fix GHSA-pfhr-pccp-hwmh

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Github.com/cilium/cilium dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

github.com/cilium/cilium fixed: 1.10.14
Upgrade github.com/cilium/cilium to 1.10.14
github.com/cilium/cilium fixed: 1.11.8
Upgrade github.com/cilium/cilium to 1.11.8
github.com/cilium/cilium fixed: 1.12.1
Upgrade github.com/cilium/cilium to 1.12.1
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for github.com/cilium/cilium

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by GHSA-pfhr-pccp-hwmh, inspect your project dependencies for Github.com/cilium/cilium:

inspect dependencies for github.com/cilium/cilium

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Github.com/cilium/cilium in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.10.14), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under General Security Weakness. In Github.com/cilium/cilium, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact If a user has Network Policies with namespace selectors selecting labels of namespaces, or (clusterwide) Cilium Network Policies matching on namespace labels, then it is possible for an attacker with Kubernetes pod deploy rights (either directly or indirectly via higher-level APIs such as Deployment, Daemonset etc) to craft additional pod labels such that the pod is selected by another policy that exists rather than the expected policy. ### Patches The problem has been fixed and is available on versions >=1.10.14, >=1.11.8, >=1.12.1 ### Workarounds There are no workarounds available. ### Acknowledgements The Cilium community has worked together with members of Isovalent to prepare these mitigations. Special thanks to Sander Mathijssen for not only highlighting the issue but also proposing a resolution. ### For more information If you have any questions or comments about this advisory, please reach out on [Slack](https://docs.cilium.io/en/latest/community/community/#slack). As usual, if you think you found a related vulnerability, we strongly encourage you to report security vulnerabilities to our private security mailing list: [security@cilium.io](mailto:security@cilium.io) - first, before disclosing them in any public forums.
