How to Fix CVE-2021-26307

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Raw cpuid dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

raw-cpuid fixed: 9.0.0
Upgrade raw-cpuid to 9.0.0
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for raw-cpuid

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2021-26307, inspect your project dependencies for Raw cpuid:

inspect dependencies for raw-cpuid

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Raw cpuid in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 9.0.0), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-400: Uncontrolled Resource Consumption, where the product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource. In Raw cpuid, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

native_cpuid::cpuid_count() exposes the unsafe __cpuid_count() intrinsic from core::arch::x86 or core::arch::x86_64 as a safe function, and uses it internally, without checking the safety requirement: * The CPU the program is currently running on supports the function being called. CPUID is available in most, but not all, x86/x86_64 environments. The crate compiles only on these architectures, so others are unaffected. This issue is mitigated by the fact that affected programs are expected to crash deterministically every time. The flaw has been fixed in v9.0.0, by intentionally breaking compilation when targeting SGX or 32-bit x86 without SSE. This covers all affected CPUs.
