How to Fix CVE-2025-29785

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Github.com/quic go/quic go dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

github.com/quic-go/quic-go fixed: 0.50.1
Upgrade github.com/quic-go/quic-go to 0.50.1
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for github.com/quic-go/quic-go

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2025-29785, inspect your project dependencies for Github.com/quic go/quic go:

inspect dependencies for github.com/quic-go/quic-go

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Github.com/quic go/quic go in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 0.50.1), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-248: Uncaught Exception, where an exception is thrown from a function, but it is not caught. In Github.com/quic go/quic go, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact The loss recovery logic for path probe packets that was added in the v0.50.0 release can be used to trigger a nil-pointer dereference by a malicious QUIC client. In order to do so, the attacker first sends valid QUIC packets from different remote addresses (thereby triggering the newly added path validation logic: the server sends path probe packets), and then sending ACKs for packets received from the server specifically crafted to trigger the nil-pointer dereference. ### Patches v0.50.1 contains a patch that fixes the vulnerability. This release contains a test that generates random sequences of sent packets (both regular and path probe packets), that was used to verify that the patch actually covers all corner cases. ### Workarounds No. ### References This issue has been reported publicly, but without any context, in https://github.com/quic-go/quic-go/issues/4981.
