How to Fix CVE-2024-35199

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Torchserve dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

torchserve fixed: 0.11.0
pip install torchserve>=0.11.0
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

pip show torchserve

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Python environment is affected by CVE-2024-35199, inspect your installed packages using pip:

pip show torchserve

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Torchserve in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 0.11.0), your application is affected.

Note: The pip show torchserve command checks currently installed packages in your active Python environment.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-668: Exposure of Resource to Wrong Sphere, where the product exposes a resource to the wrong control sphere, providing unintended actors with inappropriate access to the resource. In Torchserve, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact The two gRPC ports 7070 and 7071, are not bound to [localhost](http://localhost/) by default, so when TorchServe is launched, these two interfaces are bound to all interfaces. Customers using PyTorch inference Deep Learning Containers (DLC) through Amazon SageMaker and EKS are not affected. ### Patches This issue in TorchServe has been fixed in [#3083](https://github.com/pytorch/serve/pull/3083). TorchServe release 0.11.0 includes the fix to address this vulnerability. ### References * [#3083](https://github.com/pytorch/serve/pull/3083) * [TorchServe release v0.11.0](https://github.com/pytorch/serve/releases/tag/v0.11.0) Thank Kroll Cyber Risk for for responsibly disclosing this issue.
