How to Fix CVE-2022-29047

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Workflow cps global lib dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

org.jenkins-ci.plugins.workflow:workflow-cps-global-lib fixed: 2.21.3
<dependency>
    <groupId>org.jenkins-ci.plugins.workflow</groupId>
    <artifactId>workflow-cps-global-lib</artifactId>
    <version>2.21.3</version>
</dependency>
org.jenkins-ci.plugins.workflow:workflow-cps-global-lib fixed: 566.vd0a
<dependency>
    <groupId>org.jenkins-ci.plugins.workflow</groupId>
    <artifactId>workflow-cps-global-lib</artifactId>
    <version>566.vd0a</version>
</dependency>
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=org.jenkins-ci.plugins.workflow

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Java application is affected by CVE-2022-29047, inspect your build dependencies using the Maven Dependency Plugin:

mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=org.jenkins-ci.plugins.workflow

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Workflow cps global lib in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 2.21.3), your application is affected.

Note: The mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=org.jenkins-ci.plugins.workflow command inspects the resolved dependency graph declared in your project's POM files; it does not perform automated security scanning or inspect runtime dynamic classpaths. Always verify runtime container classpaths and shaded JARs.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-863: Incorrect Authorization, where the product performs an authorization check when an actor attempts to access a resource or perform an action, but it does not correctly perform the check. In Workflow cps global lib, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

Multibranch Pipelines by default limit who can change the Pipeline definition from the Jenkinsfile. This is useful for SCMs like GitHub: Jenkins can build content from users without commit access, but who can submit pull requests, without granting them the ability to modify the Pipeline definition. In that case, Jenkins will just use the Pipeline definition in the pull request’s destination branch instead. In Pipeline: Deprecated Groovy Libraries Plugin 564.ve62a_4eb_b_e039 and earlier the same protection does not apply to uses of the `library` step with a `retriever` argument pointing to a library in the current build’s repository and branch (e.g., `library(…, retriever: legacySCM(scm))`). This allows attackers able to submit pull requests (or equivalent), but not able to commit directly to the configured SCM, to effectively change the Pipeline behavior by changing the library behavior in their pull request, even if the Pipeline is configured to not trust them. Pipeline: Deprecated Groovy Libraries Plugin 566.vd0a_a_3334a_555 and 2.21.3 aborts library retrieval if the library would be retrieved from the same repository and revision as the current build, and the revision being built is untrusted.
