CVE-2026-72105: Software Security Vulnerability Vulnerability

HIGH
Advisory Identifier: GHSA-gg95-xc64-46gm
CVSS 7.8
CWE-190
Published
Advisory Summary

CVE-2026-72105 is a HIGH (CVSS 7.8) security vulnerability vulnerability (CWE-190: Integer Overflow or Wraparound) affecting Software libraries in the Maven ecosystem. The weakness occurs when the product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. this occurs when an integer value is incremented to a value that is too large to store in the associated representation. when this occurs, the value may become a very small or negative number.. Remediation is available in the latest vendor maintenance releases.

Security Impact

CVSS: 7.8

The security impact metrics below are parsed directly from the CVSS v3.1 vector string (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H).

Attack Vector Local (AV:L)
Attack Complexity Low (AC:L)
Privileges Required Low (PR:L)
User Interaction None (UI:N)
Scope Unchanged (S:U)
Confidentiality High (C:H)
Integrity High (I:H)
Availability High (A:H)

How to Fix CVE-2026-72105

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Software dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

mvn dependency:tree

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Java application is affected by CVE-2026-72105, inspect your build dependencies using the Maven Dependency Plugin:

mvn dependency:tree

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Software in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than the patched release), your application is affected.

Note: The mvn dependency:tree command inspects the resolved dependency graph declared in your project's POM files; it does not perform automated security scanning or inspect runtime dynamic classpaths. Always verify runtime container classpaths and shaded JARs.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-190: Integer Overflow or Wraparound, where the product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. this occurs when an integer value is incremented to a value that is too large to store in the associated representation. when this occurs, the value may become a very small or negative number. In Software, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: dm-log: fix a bitset_size overflow on 32bit machines Commit c20e36b7631d ("dm log: fix out-of-bounds write due to region_count overflow") made sure that region_count could fit in an unsigned int. But the bitmap memory isn't allocated based on region_count. It uses bitset_size (a size_t variable). The first step of calculating bitset_size is to set it to region_count, rounded up to a multiple of BITS_PER_LONG. If region_size is less than BITS_PER_LONG smaller than UINT_MAX, it will get rounded up to 2^32. On a 32bit architecture, this will make bitset_size wrap around to 0 and fail, despite region_count being valid. Since bitset_size gets divided by 8, it can hold any valid region_count. It just needs a special case to handle the rollover. If it is 0, the value rolled over, and bitset size should be set to the number of bytes needed to hold 2^32 bits.
