How to Fix GHSA-g5rr-p69h-7v3g

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Pocketmine/pocketmine mp dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

pocketmine/pocketmine-mp fixed: 4.2.9
Upgrade pocketmine/pocketmine-mp to 4.2.9
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for pocketmine/pocketmine-mp

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by GHSA-g5rr-p69h-7v3g, inspect your project dependencies for Pocketmine/pocketmine mp:

inspect dependencies for pocketmine/pocketmine-mp

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Pocketmine/pocketmine mp in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 4.2.9), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-1287: Improper Validation of Specified Type of Input, where the product receives input that is expected to be of a certain type, but it does not validate or incorrectly validates that the input is actually of the expected type. In Pocketmine/pocketmine mp, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact When an inventory interaction is performed (e.g. moving an item around an inventory), the client sends a serialized version of the itemstack to the server, which the server then deserializes and compares against its own copy. If the copies don't match, the transaction is invalid. This involves deserializing item NBT from the client, which allows for bogus data to be provided. Usually, this is harmless, but in this particular case, it could result in crashes on certain types of bad data (e.g. incorrect ListTag type provided for the `CanDestroy` tag). ### Patches This is fixed in 4.2.9 by commit 5a98b08ee8dc8ff14862cd83d2e4af9d212fefc2. ### Workarounds It's non-trivial to workaround this, but can be done by handling `InventoryTransactionPacket` and `PlayerAuthInputPacket` to scrub inbound transaction data of bogus NBT that would cause these crashes. ### For more information * Email us at [team@pmmp.io](mailto:team@pmmp.io)
