How to Fix CVE-2023-40341

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Blueocean dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

io.jenkins.blueocean:blueocean fixed: 1.27.5.1
<dependency>
    <groupId>io.jenkins.blueocean</groupId>
    <artifactId>blueocean</artifactId>
    <version>1.27.5.1</version>
</dependency>
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=io.jenkins.blueocean

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Java application is affected by CVE-2023-40341, inspect your build dependencies using the Maven Dependency Plugin:

mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=io.jenkins.blueocean

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Blueocean in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.27.5.1), your application is affected.

Note: The mvn dependency:tree -Dincludes=io.jenkins.blueocean command inspects the resolved dependency graph declared in your project's POM files; it does not perform automated security scanning or inspect runtime dynamic classpaths. Always verify runtime container classpaths and shaded JARs.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-352: Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF), where the web application does not, or cannot, sufficiently verify whether a request was intentionally provided by the user who sent the request, which could have originated from an unauthorized actor. In Blueocean, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

Jenkins Blue Ocean Plugin 1.27.5 and earlier does not require POST requests for an HTTP endpoint, resulting in a cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerability. This vulnerability allows attackers to connect to an attacker-specified URL, capturing GitHub credentials associated with an attacker-specified job. This issue is due to an incomplete fix of SECURITY-2502. Blue Ocean Plugin 1.27.5.1 uses the configured SCM URL, instead of a user-specified URL provided as a parameter to the HTTP endpoint.
