How to Fix CVE-2023-30838

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Prestashop/prestashop dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

prestashop/prestashop fixed: 8.0.4
Upgrade prestashop/prestashop to 8.0.4
prestashop/prestashop fixed: 1.7.8.9
Upgrade prestashop/prestashop to 1.7.8.9
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for prestashop/prestashop

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2023-30838, inspect your project dependencies for Prestashop/prestashop:

inspect dependencies for prestashop/prestashop

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Prestashop/prestashop in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 8.0.4), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting'), where the product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. In Prestashop/prestashop, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact ValidateCore::isCleanHTML() method of Prestashop misses hijickable events which can lead to XSS injection, allowed by the presence of pre-setup @keyframes methods. This XSS which hijacks HTML attributes will be triggered without any interaction of the visitor/administrator which makes it as dangerous as a trivial XSS. Contrary to most XSS which target HTML attributes and which are triggered without user interaction (such as onload / onerror which suffer from a very limited scope), this one can hijack every HTML element, which increases the danger due to a complete HTML elements scope. ### Patches The patch will be on PS 8.0.4 and PS 1.7.8.9 ### References
