How to Fix CVE-2019-1020002

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Pterodactyl/panel dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

pterodactyl/panel fixed: 0.7.14
Upgrade pterodactyl/panel to 0.7.14
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for pterodactyl/panel

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2019-1020002, inspect your project dependencies for Pterodactyl/panel:

inspect dependencies for pterodactyl/panel

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Pterodactyl/panel in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 0.7.14), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-203: Observable Discrepancy, where the product behaves differently or sends different responses under different circumstances in a way that is observable to an unauthorized actor. In Pterodactyl/panel, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

**Pterodactyl version 0.7.13 and lower - 2FA Sniffing** Users who have enabled 2FA protections on their account can unintentionally have their account's existence sniffed by malicious users who enter random credentials into the login fields. ### Impact Users who have enabled 2FA protections on their account can unintentionally have their account's existence sniffed by malicious users who enter random credentials into the login fields. A logical mistake was made when the original code was written that would wait to verify the user's password until they had provided 2FA credentials if it was enabled on their account. However, because of this you could enter a bad password for a known email and determine if the account exists if you got redirected to a 2FA page. ### For more information If you have any questions or comments about this advisory please react out on Discord or email dane@[project name].io.
