How to Fix CVE-2025-49140

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Github.com/pion/interceptor dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

github.com/pion/interceptor fixed: 0.1.39
Upgrade github.com/pion/interceptor to 0.1.39
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for github.com/pion/interceptor

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2025-49140, inspect your project dependencies for Github.com/pion/interceptor:

inspect dependencies for github.com/pion/interceptor

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Github.com/pion/interceptor in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 0.1.39), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-770: Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling, where the product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any intended restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated. In Github.com/pion/interceptor, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact Pion Interceptor versions v0.1.36 through v0.1.38 contain a bug in a RTP packet factory that can be exploited to trigger a panic with Pion based SFU via crafted RTP packets, This only affect users that use pion/interceptor. ### Patches Upgrade to v0.1.39 or later, which includes PR [#338](https://github.com/pion/interceptor/pull/338) which validates that: `padLen > 0 && padLen <= payloadLength` and return error on overflow, avoiding panic. If upgrading is not possible, apply the patch from the pull request manually or drop packets whose P-bit is set but whose padLen is zero or larger than the remaining payload. ### Workarounds At the application layer, reject any RTP packet where: ``` hasPadding (P-bit field) == true && (padLen == 0 || padLen > packetLen – headerLen) ``` before passing it to Pion’s packet factories. ### References Commit fixing the bug: https://github.com/pion/interceptor/commit/fa5b35ea867389cec33a9c82fffbd459ca8958e5 Pull request: https://github.com/pion/interceptor/pull/338 Issue: https://github.com/pion/webrtc/issues/3148
