CVE-2019-10141: Ironic inspector SQL Injection Vulnerability
HIGHCVE-2019-10141 is a HIGH (CVSS 8.3) sql injection vulnerability (CWE-89: Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an SQL Command ('SQL Injection')) affecting Ironic inspector libraries in the PyPI ecosystem. The issue involves openstack ironic-inspector has sql injection vulnerability in node_cache. Remediation is available by upgrading affected packages to version 5.0.2, 6.0.3, 7.2.4, 8.0.3, 8.2.1.

Security Impact
CVSS: 8.3
The security impact metrics below are parsed directly from the CVSS v3.1 vector string (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:H).
How to Fix CVE-2019-10141
To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Ironic inspector dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.
pip install ironic-inspector>=5.0.2
pip install ironic-inspector>=6.0.3
pip install ironic-inspector>=7.2.4
pip install ironic-inspector>=8.0.3
pip install ironic-inspector>=8.2.1
Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:
pip show ironic-inspector
How to Check if You Are Affected
To determine whether your Python environment is affected by CVE-2019-10141, inspect your installed packages using pip:
pip show ironic-inspector
Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Ironic inspector in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 5.0.2), your application is affected.
Note: The pip show ironic-inspector command checks currently installed packages in your active Python environment.
Technical Details
Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis
This vulnerability is classified under CWE-89: Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an SQL Command ('SQL Injection'), where the product constructs all or part of an sql command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended sql command when it is sent to a downstream component. without sufficient removal or quoting of sql syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated sql query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as sql instead of ordinary user data. In Ironic inspector, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

A SQL-injection vulnerability was found in openstack-ironic-inspector's node_cache.find_node(). This function makes a SQL query using unfiltered data from a server reporting inspection results (by a POST to the /v1/continue endpoint). Because the API is unauthenticated, the flaw could be exploited by an attacker with access to the network on which ironic-inspector is listening. Because of how ironic-inspector uses the query results, it is unlikely that data could be obtained. However, the attacker could pass malicious data and create a denial of service.",
