How to Fix CVE-2023-28445

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Deno dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

Deno fixed: 1.32.1
Upgrade Deno to 1.32.1
serde_v8 fixed: 0.88.0
Upgrade serde_v8 to 0.88.0
deno_runtime fixed: 0.103.0
Upgrade deno_runtime to 0.103.0
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for Deno

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2023-28445, inspect your project dependencies for Deno:

inspect dependencies for Deno

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Deno in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 1.32.1), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-125: Out-of-bounds Read, where the product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. In Deno, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Impact [Resizable ArrayBuffers](https://github.com/tc39/proposal-resizablearraybuffer) passed to asynchronous native functions that are shrunk during the asynchronous operation could result in an out-of-bound read/write. It is unlikely that this has been exploited in the wild, as the only version affected is Deno 1.32.0. Deno Deploy users are not affected. ### Patches The problem has been resolved by disabling resizable ArrayBuffers temporarily in Deno 1.32.1. A future version of Deno will re-enable resizable ArrayBuffers with a proper fix. ### Workarounds Upgrade to Deno 1.32.1, or run with `--v8-flags=--no-harmony-rab-gsab` to disable resizable ArrayBuffers.
