How to Fix CVE-2025-46553

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected @misskey dev/summaly dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

@misskey-dev/summaly fixed: 5.2.1
npm install @misskey-dev/summaly@5.2.1
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

npm ls @misskey-dev/summaly

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Node.js application is affected by CVE-2025-46553, inspect your project dependencies using npm:

npm ls @misskey-dev/summaly

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of @misskey dev/summaly in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 5.2.1), your application is affected.

Note: The npm ls @misskey-dev/summaly command inspects dependencies declared in your package.json and lockfile; it does not perform automated runtime dynamic scanning.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-669: Incorrect Resource Transfer Between Spheres, where the product does not properly transfer a resource/behavior to another sphere, or improperly imports a resource/behavior from another sphere, in a manner that provides unintended control over that resource. In @misskey dev/summaly, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

### Summary A logic error in the main `summaly` function causes the `allowRedirects` option to never be passed to any plugins, and as a result, isn't enforced. ### Details In the main `summaly` function, a new `scrapingOptions` object is created and passed to either the matched plugin, if any, or the default summarize function. The issue here is that the new `scrapingOptions` object is not provided the `allowRedirects` property of `opts`. ### PoC - Publish a post containing a link to any URL that redirects on Misskey. - A preview will be generated for the target of the redirect, despite Misskey passing `allowRedirects: false`. ### Impact Misskey will follow redirects, despite explicitly requesting not to.
