How to Fix CVE-2025-32431

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Github.com/traefik/traefik dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

github.com/traefik/traefik fixed: Latest secure release
Upgrade github.com/traefik/traefik to Latest secure release
github.com/traefik/traefik/v2 fixed: 2.11.23
Upgrade github.com/traefik/traefik/v2 to 2.11.23
github.com/traefik/traefik/v3 fixed: 3.3.6
Upgrade github.com/traefik/traefik/v3 to 3.3.6
github.com/traefik/traefik/v3 fixed: 3.4.0-rc2
Upgrade github.com/traefik/traefik/v3 to 3.4.0-rc2
Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

inspect dependencies for github.com/traefik/traefik

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your application is affected by CVE-2025-32431, inspect your project dependencies for Github.com/traefik/traefik:

inspect dependencies for github.com/traefik/traefik

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Github.com/traefik/traefik in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than 2.11.23), your application is affected.

Note: Verify declared build manifests and deployed runtime container environments.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-22: Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal'), where the product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. In Github.com/traefik/traefik, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

## Impact There is a potential vulnerability in Traefik managing the requests using a `PathPrefix`, `Path` or `PathRegex` matcher. When Traefik is configured to route the requests to a backend using a matcher based on the path, if the URL contains a `/../` in its path, it’s possible to target a backend, exposed using another router, by-passing the middlewares chain. ## Example ```yaml apiVersion: traefik.io/v1alpha1 kind: IngressRoute metadata: name: my-service spec: routes: - match: PathPrefix(‘/service’) kind: Rule services: - name: service-a port: 8080 middlewares: - name: my-middleware-a - match: PathPrefix(‘/service/sub-path’) kind: Rule services: - name: service-a port: 8080 ``` In such a case, the request `http://mydomain.example.com/service/sub-path/../other-path` will reach the backend `my-service-a` without operating the middleware `my-middleware-a` unless the computed path is `http://mydomain.example.com/service/other-path` and should be computes by the first router (operating `my-middleware-a`). ## Patches - https://github.com/traefik/traefik/releases/tag/v2.11.24 - https://github.com/traefik/traefik/releases/tag/v3.3.6 - https://github.com/traefik/traefik/releases/tag/v3.4.0-rc2 ## Workaround Add a `PathRegexp` rule to the matcher to prevent matching a route with a `/../` in the path. Example: ```yaml match: PathPrefix(`/service`) && !PathRegexp(`(?:(/\.\./)+.*)`) ``` ## For more information If you have any questions or comments about this advisory, please [open an issue](https://github.com/traefik/traefik/issues).
