CVE-2026-62436: Software Security Vulnerability Vulnerability

MODERATE
Advisory Identifier: GHSA-6j24-4j62-qj29
CVSS 6.5
CWE-362

Advisory Summary

CVE-2026-62436 is a MODERATE (CVSS 6.5) security vulnerability vulnerability (CWE-362: Concurrent Execution using Shared Resource with Improper Synchronization ('Race Condition')) affecting Software libraries in the Maven ecosystem. The weakness occurs when the product contains a concurrent code sequence that requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence operating concurrently.. Remediation is available in the latest vendor maintenance releases.

How to Fix CVE-2026-62436

To remediate this vulnerability, upgrade all affected Software dependencies to a patched release. Both direct and transitive dependencies should be checked, as frameworks or security libraries may pull in vulnerable versions transitively.

Verify Direct and Transitive Dependencies

Run the following command in your project directory to verify that all resolved dependencies use the patched release:

mvn dependency:tree

How to Check if You Are Affected

To determine whether your Java application is affected by CVE-2026-62436, inspect your build dependencies using the Maven Dependency Plugin:

mvn dependency:tree

Analyze the terminal output to locate any version of Software in your dependency tree. If any resolved version matches the vulnerable ranges listed in the table below (for example, versions earlier than the patched release), your application is affected.

Note: The mvn dependency:tree command inspects the resolved dependency graph declared in your project's POM files; it does not perform automated security scanning or inspect runtime dynamic classpaths. Always verify runtime container classpaths and shaded JARs.

Technical Details

Vulnerability Mechanism & Technical Analysis

This vulnerability is classified under CWE-362: Concurrent Execution using Shared Resource with Improper Synchronization ('Race Condition'), where the product contains a concurrent code sequence that requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence operating concurrently. In Software, software state validation or input boundaries are circumvented during processing. Review the official source advisory statement below for specific affected components, classes, and reproduction details.

Source Advisory Statement

[This CNA information record relates to multiple CVEs; the text explains which aspects/vulnerabilities correspond to which CVE.] With the introduction of Grant Table v2 came the requirement to be able to switch between versions. Switching from v1 to v2 reduces the number of valid grant references, as a bigger shared entry structure is then needed while the shared table doesn't change size. Switching from v2 back to v1 the status frames, which are separate in v2, go away. Code holding, but intermediately dropping and then re-acquiring the grant table lock, sometimes wrongly assumes that said properties wouldn't change across the window in time where the lock is not being held. The v1 -> v2 issue is CVE-2026-62435. The v2 -> v1 issue is CVE-2026-62436.
